Different People in the empty tomb
Really Really incredibly funny. Love an Easter Meme
Y’all Wanna Hear A Story About Why Me and This Bitch Here Fell Out?! It’s Kinda Long But Full Of Suspense
Maybe viral marketing for the Zola movie but I don’t care. Also reminds me of feuds I forgot about which I love. I love a good feud. I think our culture has done away with even handed emotional feuds in favor of moral quandaries which are less interesting to me. Good memes should invoke emotions and this one makes genuinely sad when I see celebrities who are no longer friends with each other, like Bethenny and Jill from RHONY. I would rather see real life examples than the plot of very popular movies. I don’t love people making it a quote tweet chain meme. I do not like quote tweet chains. Clicking through chains of quote tweets is never gratifying and feels like a waste of time. There’s no reason to quote tweet the Jeremy O. Harris, the writer of the Zola movie. It’s a text based meme, just repeat the text in your own tweet.
My Grandfather Was Such a Vibe
I don’t like saying that I don’t get a meme, but this one really does not do it for me and I don’t understand why people have really taken to it. Something that is maybe funny the first time but the third photo of James Charles in sepia in a hour is really not making me laugh. It is nowhere near as funny as telling people Keke Palmer is your dead sister who was hit by a train. Here, it is so obvious that people are lying that there’s no attempt to like trick anyone. We’re all just saying things that aren’t true for no reason. Like little kids who think telling a joke is just lying. By all means continue to go on the internet and tell lies but at least have a little skill to it. It feels like there’s not really a joke there. Something is missing. It needs another element or more effort. For now it is bottom of the barrel gay twitter.
2 On/Tinashe Meme
Has Tinashe Happened? Has she had her Dua Lipa ascension yet? Either way I love that were trying again with her. 2 On is a great song and she’s allowed to have her moment in the second pandemic spring. I don’t want to see other versions with other pop girls. Let Tinashe have her moment. For once.
[x] understands the assignment
What do you think an actor is.... or does. There’s something to be said for actors who are good in everything or at least give their all to every role. That’s not what this meme is. In recent years twitter has tried to elevate and rally around certain actors or actresses. We’re trying to do this here but on such a low level that’s not even Stan worthy. People are just saying they “understand the assignment” which yeah, that’s what they get paid to do. They’re actors who are not capital M Movie stars that people want to recognize. If you’re going to try to push an actor in the collective consciousness as a forgotten star, you have to really go for it. I’m all for team Matthew Lillard Oscar but you have to give a little more effort.
Late Night Talks Hit Different On These
I don’t care either way. Late Night talks do hit different on cheap uncomfortable lawn chairs, but that’s not excuse to tweet that once a week and get 200k likes. There’s also no excuse to make a million tweets making fun of the first guy. Go outside and touch some grass all of you.
Tiktok
No That’s [x] I Said [x]
I’ve been putting off writing about this one because it doesn’t seem to be reaching critical mass but is always there in the background. It’s an old school forum meme where people do reply chains of defining a word and than adding a new word that another person defines. You can find it on Tumblr and Twitter to this day. The Tiktok version leaves a lot to be desired. Obviously the Tiktok version is identity centered which I think limits the content rather than enhances it. It’s also a little clunky in comparison to the original version which operates as a smooth chain often in the replies of an original post. Don’t love it. Could be improved but seems to only be getting worse.
I Hate All Men/ But When He Loves Me I Feel Like Somebody
The “I hate all men” thing is so over. Pretending that you hate all men when you are actively attracted to them and pursue them is disingenuous and unhelpful. Whatever feminist cause you want to advance is not helped by pretending you don’t actively seek out the company of men. Adding the but is the worst part. You can just say you love your boyfriend. The original song is good and about loving your boyfriend. That’s fine and a fine sentiment to express. There’s no need to preface saying how much you love your boyfriend by pretending you hate all men.
There’s also other versions of the meme where people say “when she loves me” or “when they love me” which is fine on the surface but I always think it is annoying to make memes that are about some kind of specific situation gen pop. It makes the meme and the sentiment weaker. My personal philosophy is to sit out a meme that does not apply to you rather than adjust the format to make it work for you. Also this meme is bad and annoying there’s no reason to apply it to your relationship.
This is America Lois
I don’t want to say it’s not a good meme and that we always have to be respectful all the time. It is after all a Family Guy clip. But like how do you decide which example of whatever silly thing you’re going to be doing is racism and which is Native American genocide. Just, something to consider.
Lil Nas X
A way to be pro Lil Nas X and still be funny. Looking through the sound to find an example I found a lot of bad ones but I think the sound has potential and there could be funny versions. It’s a little edgy but no one is really going for it which I think is fine. There’s enough people wasting their energy fighting on Facebook and Twitter in defense of Lil Nas X. Fighting with conservatives on the internet is useless and stupid because trying to outsmart them with their own logic and engaging with them on an intellectual level will not get you anywhere. You have to win by bullying them and being cooler than them, which this meme tries to accomplish.
Makes me think of a Dominos Pizza..... Should We????
Really great. I do love this sound because I love to live in a “should we????” moment. A moment that changes the trajectory of your whole day. I like seeing everyone else’s should we moment. I will not be commenting further on Trisha Paytas or the Frenemies podcast. Don’t ask me about it.
My Childhood Slideshow
I get it you’re proud of your liberal childhood. Your organic npr Volvo station wagon world. I get it. Nobody gets it more than me. I’m from Burlington VT. One of the birthplaces of this lifestyle. Shut up about it. Please shut up about it. No one cares that you had a happy childhood. It is not as unique as you think it is and it’s neither interesting nor funny. It’s not fun to watch. it doesn’t inspire anything in me and I had the exact same childhood so imagine how people who didn’t grow up like that feel. Keep it to yourself.
Something that really bugs me about "[x] understands the assignment" is that they think they are ahead of the zeitgeist by appreciating these underappreciated actors when many of the actors have already been paid their dues. Like I remember when Freaks and Geeks was big on Netflix 8 years ago and people were like 'wow Linda Cardellini is such a hidden gem!' Not to mention she's won TV Land's Icon Award as a cast member of ER...
