Welcome to What’s For Lunch, the monthly column where I write about the food of TikTok. This month I’m talking about Justine Snacks, a woman living in the shadow of Emily Mariko. 

Emily Mariko is the food it girl of the moment and everyone in the food community is being compared to her. Most people beat the worse Emily Mariko allegations by having a very specific point of view but that can be harder when your “thing” is very similar. Justine has been around for a while and I’ve seen her videos on my FYP for longer but she’s never hit the way Emily has. They both have a very similar aesthetic and appeal. They’re both skinny late twenties early thirties women who live in major cities with somewhat aspirational lives. I don’t think Justine would classify her life as particularly aspirational but by having a clean apartment in Brooklyn, a boyfriend, and a full time social media job, she’s doing better than most and who wouldn’t covet those things?
