In January, Netflix released it’s long awaited Hype House tv show. The Hype House was a collection of famous tiktokers who had moved to Los Angeles in order to make content together and bolster their personal and collective brand. The series follows the tiktokers in their daily lives as content creators. It struggles to create drama and interesting story lines. This is largely because the era of the Hype House is over. Spoiler, but the show ends with the house being disbanded and the entire collective moving on to bigger and better things. The show is grasping at straws to both explain its concept and prove itself worth watching. It tries to capitalize on something long after it’s moment has passed. The end product is not greater than the sum of its parts. In fact the parts should be separated and each person given their own path, rather than try to make it all fit in the narrative of the long past relevant Hype House.
