Hawk Tuah Podcast
Hawk Tuah is still popular because she has median voter vibes. She doesn't get popular if it's not an election year. She, like the rest of the country, could go either way at any given moment and it's up to those of us in factions to sway her either way. We’re all trying to win Hawk Tuah in the National Divorce. What once belonged to the barstool boys and conservative man-on-the-street interviewers could find a home with other women in media if the wind blows the right way. As goes Hawk Tuah, so goes the nation.
Spooky Season
I'm not sure where we’re at culturally with pumpkin spice lattes. The pumpkin spice positivity dial is broken. The autumn crowd is a little tired. They need new material. We're losing sight of the true pleasures of autumn that cinnamon and pumpkin spice are meant to invoke. Too many people who think they know what they’re talking about are speaking. Trust me when I tell you: there are things you're missing. As a Vermonter, I am an authority on fall. We know it better than anyone in America. When I lived in Los Angeles I put up with facsimiles of fall in 80 degree Octobers. Everyone else exists in the gap between those two places. For some people, Fall is a decision and a feeling rather than a season. The rest of us have been tricked into thinking fall begins on September 1st because we decided it does. September is the end of Summer. It’s the wind-down. We don’t need to get into Pumpkin Spice season now. We can wait until there’s a real chill in the air.
What I do know, the Spooky season content is more grating posted by the engagement bait blue checks. I hate those accounts. So deeply. They will be what kills the site. After we’ve all left, those who stay will be picking over the scraps from the cat accounts and creepy dot org, and worst of all, I fucking love science.
What Happened Financially In August Can Never Happen Again
New way to talk just dropped!! It’s so good when we have a new phrase to play with. This time with Adverbs!! Here we can play with the amount of time (the past month, few weeks, few months, years) and the adverb. “Financially” can be swapped with whatever adverb you’d like to create. Wherever you binged recently can be restricted as long as you can create the adverb. It feels good to have a sentence we can all share that sounds somewhat normal but is actually one of our little games.

I’m about the farthest thing from a Maisie Peters fan a person can be but I like this song. I like what it contributes to this culture. I’m happy to see everyone posting about the progress they’ve made in life just by letting the time pass. I think it’s cute that it’s becoming an annual tradition. I also like that I have enough problems with the song that it functions more as a utility than anything. I hate the way she says coven. I hate that she even says coven in reference to her friends at all. I like that I can’t be hyperbolic about how much I hate it because of how much I like it. It encapsulates how I feel about self-help. Sometimes you need it but you can’t buy in all the way.
Symphony
This year's Nobel Peace Prize should go to the person who illustrates these images of dolphins having fun. Nothing puts me at peace like a picture of a dolphin having fun. They’ve been getting a lot of traction on both Twitter and TikTok recently because the happiness they inspire is universal. This meme of course tries to subvert their happiness. Partnered with Zara Larson’s 2nd string pop song, Symphony we are overwhelmed with positivity which allows users to post their less-than-positive experiences. They’re fun constructions and I get what everyone is going for but all the work is overshadowed by the strength of the dolphin image. Not everything needs several layers of irony and media. Let the dolphin play.
