Joe Biden is back in our good graces. He’s awake, alive, alert, and enthusiastic, so we’re ready to receive him. This meme is less about the content and more of a response to having a semi functioning president again. After months of republicans taking easy shots and leftists taking even easier ones, he finally did something. Both on the student loans front and on the being a living breathing human being front. We couldn’t help but give him a meme for old times sake.

I’m obsessed with this meme as piece of history. If you were around for Kennedy (I wasn’t), you’ll remember that people didn’t want to vote for a Catholic out of fear that he would be a mouthpiece for the pope. America would become a Catholic theocracy under a Catholic presidency, it would only be a matter of time. When Biden was elected, no one seemed to voice this concern. So instead, Catholics are acting like it’s something they want. It’s of course a joke (I think?) but a joke based on a thought no one’s had since 1963. He’s on the phone with the pope, strong as ever, molding the country in His Image. What was once a misconception born out of fear is now an idealized present, using the premier method of communication of the day. From Radio to memes!

For three days we’ve been discussing if it’s ok for famous actresses to have republican parents (she’s not an activist so it’s fine) and if it’s shocking that this one has them (it isn’t). The memes surrounding this event contextualize it well. Her crime was having conservatives relatives, which last I checked, is not worth litigating in any real sense. She shouldn’t have posted but it’s a dangerous game to start making strangers cut off their family because we’ve decided they’re progressive.

We of course couldn’t help ourselves. Give us a simple picture, we’ll replace it with someone or something else. The vibe here is giddy excitement. All that private jet stuff is in the past and we’ll happily believe that. If I were crazy, I would say the Jet stuff was planted PR on her behalf. The numbers were faked so we would think about her again and we could do our favorite thing: forgive her. But I'm not crazy and this album is definitely crisis PR. I’ll keep drinking that garbage though.

Finally, A Bluey sound is trending. I hate this stupid fucking show with every fiber of my being. I am a childless adult. I am primarily friends with other childless adults. There is no reason for this show to permeate my bubble. And yet it does. Still the evil persists as adults post their fan theories and complaints and thoughts on the evil Disney corporations censorship of the show. I know too much. I know these dogs live in an affluent suburb of Sydney, I know one of them is a rainbow baby, and the way people talk about it makes me think it has more drama than any given episode of Degrassi. The theme song plays in my nightmares. Now that it is a TikTok trend, we’re weeks away from a Steven Universe level disaster. I warned you!!

I’ve never believed in going with grace and yet have been forced to in most situations. It’s nice to see that others refuse to and tell us about all the ways they ruined someone else’s life. If nothing else, it’s good drama.

I don’t think anyone is using this one right. It does prove a theory I’ve long held, though. No one knows how to use the word actually. It often provides emphasis the speaker does not intend, but anti intellectualism runs rampant and we let everyone continue rather than correct them and be seen as snobs. Not me! You’re all stupid and wrong.

It feels good to use the language that once came so naturally to us. My mom said it’s ok if your mom said it’s ok. All you needed was a yes and then you were going to have the best night of your life, an impromptu sleepover with your best friend, when you were already hanging out. What could be better? Sometimes we need to bring back that unbridled joy. Or try to achieve it by using the same words. It’s not much but it’s a start. It’s an attempt to get at what we once were.

We love a filter! There’s nothing like a popular filter as an excuse to be silly. Let’s have some fun with it. Not only is the filter fun but there’s cussing in the song associated with it. Everyone is getting back from their summers in Europe (tfti btw) and some europeans have been spouting off about Americans being stupid again so everyone gets an excuse to be patriotic. Not necessarily about the country but the fact that we have iced coffee and fast food. Every so often we get a pass to say America may not be good but at least it’s better than Europe!
