Girl Explaining
This meme exploded onto the timeline last week. It had the perfect Memeforum ramp up: a whole week of anticipating what your favorite meme critic might think of this meme. Would the woman with a bi-weekly newsletter where she fires off her unedited opinions at an unsuspecting public, love the meme featuring a girl yelling? Of course I love it! Of course I do. I love yelling, I love explaining things to an uninterested man, I love when other women join me in their yelling. I endorse this meme wholeheartedly. Go forth and scream!
The Director Yelled Cut
First of all, not how things work. Second of all, not much of a meme. It’s just saying you like a scene from a movie or music video. Stan Twitter is bored. We’re all bored. Summer’s almost over and we need the rush of some kind of event, hopefully one that’s celebrity oriented for Stan Twitter’s sake.
Lisa Rinna M&M
All you need to know to understand this Real Housewives meme is that Lisa Rinna, at one point, was edited to be an M&M as part of the M&M yourself marketing campaign. There was once a website where users could design themselves as M&Ms, much like Lisa Rinna. The website unfortunately no longer exists and all we have are our memories. Let us never forget this bizarre M&Ms marketing campaign and what horrors they forced upon us. Let us always remember Lisa Rinna M&M. Je me Souviens Lisa Rinna M&M.

We do this a lot. This kind of phrasing and meme response to unhelpful advice we get from the general republic is how we demonized exercise as a suggestion for treating depression. People are thoughtless, people are stupid to the point of being malicious. We’ve seen it before, it’s nothing new. We’ve found new ways to complain about it instead of new ways to deal with it.
Corn Song

Every week on TikTok, we create a new addition to the rubric of when it’s ok to write a song about the current cultural moment. Wanting to be the next SNL cast member? No. Remixing a video of a little boy talking about corn? Yes! Everything else we have yet to means test so it’s luck of the draw. I can see the backlash coming for this one a mile away. It’s not cringe yet but it will be soon. Mostly because the song is by the same guy who did the Bed Intruder song all those years ago. Can he hold onto it a second time with Gen Z? Or will they too grow tired of his antics? Just as we did all those years ago, during Obama’s first term.
An another note, any time a vegetable trends it’s a good idea to think about how much power their lobbyists have. I know it’s corn season and that’s an easy explanation but could anyone remind me if the United States has any kind of existing relationship with corn subsidies? Do they have any vested interest in their citizens continued consumption and production of corn? Is corn a politically neutral vegetable? Does anyone know? Perhaps I’m being paranoid.
Cop Car

A version of this meme was doing well on Twitter a couple weeks ago but sometimes TikTok does it better. Sometimes I need to see the faces. I need people pretending to be sad about being arrested in the back of a cop car that’s superimposed on the screen. Sometimes Spongebob doesn’t cut it. It’s good. it’s more creative, more personal, and as time passes, more fun. Sometimes we need non-stan Twitter weirdos to participate. Sometimes, we even need the normies.

I don’t care about the parts of your past that you regret, or looked ugly for, or believed things you no longer believed, if you’re not going to post a picture. Otherwise you’re just admitting something that should probably stay secret and not making any fun content. I’m not your friend, I just want content.

In recent years, we’ve returned to parlor games. Fun word play for the sake of world play. Sitting around the solarium in our petticoats and top hats, coming up with witty retorts while we wait for the aspick to solidify. I love a word game so I can’t deny these tickle me but I would love if we could decide on rules. Is it opposites or synonyms? Both are fine but when it gets to my turn, I want to be correct. Am I Kathryn Lose or Kathryn Victory?
Likewise yearning for more rules re: celebrity name game. Antonyms are funniest and seem to be the most popular, but I hate when people will only do half of the name or mix and match the opposites/similarities. Memes should follow an internal grammar!
