🚨🚨🚨ANNOUNCEMENT🚨🚨🚨🚨
I am going on vacation next week. There will be no Meme Report or Sunday Edition!! This is the first time there will be no Meme Report since I started doing this in January of 2021. I have written Meme Reports in airports and on (prescribed) opiates (while recovering from surgery), I need a break. I will be back with a super sized edition. Enjoy this one, and try to get by without me.
If you miss me, and my thoughts, you can always subscribe and catch up on past premium editions.
(Also there’s gonna be a bunch of special editions in July because there weren’t any in June. Sorry. I’m working on it. )
We Will Adopt Your Baby
The fever has broken. We’re making memes again. It only took a couple of days but everyone is ready to meme again. Something to break up the timeline. Of course it’s about the topic at hand, we could not alleviate the guilt that comes with “joking at a time like this” if it were not. The joke itself is easy. It’s an attack on the weirdos who went to a protest over the weekend with a sign that says “We will adopt your baby.” which, of course, came off as creepy. There’s a lot of people coming on twitter with a lot of different rhetorical angles that, even though we’re on the same general side come off as stupid or creepy or TERFy (the TERFs are doing it on purpose though). These people were an easy target and easy way to get out frustrations about rhetoric The meme is not good but our first one back never is. Hopefully the next one will actually be funny or engaging or at the very least, a worthy distraction.
TikTok
Me, A Normal Teenager

This meme is about people whose ability to be normal was changed by some piece of media. No one who’s life trajectory was changed by the McElroy Brothers, or youtube, or fanfiction was ever on any path towards normalcy. I’m sorry if this is how you’re finding out.
Defendant Goofy

Rough stuff out there for people who don’t know how to keep shit to themselves. Sorry that happened but no one asked you to put it on the internet. I like watching them when they’re a little bit of an overshare but some people need to keep things to themselves. Some situations where the author made an absolute fool of themselves, don’t need to be broadcast to everyone on tiktok.
Getting Krissed

I fall for it every time. I love liars. Every single time I go “what?!” and then I see Kris Jenner singing along to Lady Marmalade and I laugh at having fallen for it. It’s the thrill of the lie and the release of being told it’s a lie immediately. We do these every so often but I think we should do them more. No one should ever let their guard down at being krissed. It should be the new Rick Roll.
But I Know (Law and Order Theme)…. It’s Nobody’s Fault

Summer’s here and Jimmy Buffett is popular again on TikTok. This time with a sound about sussing out your political allies and enemies. The trend itself is fine. Finally we have a sound for the moments when someone says a political talking point that both the right and the left share but for different reasons. I’m so happy for everyone who can finally express that. I don’t find these videos particularly insightful or funny. More than anything they’re a little self satisfied for not doing that much. But I love Jimmy Buffet so I’m always happy to escape to Margaritaville, if only for a moment.
Idiom Translations

I love this trend. I love learning what idioms are in other languages. This crowdsources what would typically be a Buzzfeed list but is ten times more interesting because each person doing it has unique authorship. As much fun as it would be to look up a list of direct translations of idioms, it’s more fun when people from that culture present their favorite. Instead of gawking in a “look how different things are” way; It’s “look how much funnier and cooler and more eloquent my language is than English”, which I think is a fun tone. I could watch a thousand of these all day long. It’s the perfect little fun fact every ten videos or so.
Pawn Stars Slideshow (Can’t Embedded Slideshows!)
There are many reality shows that follow an easily digestible format and cost at most, $6 to make. Because of this, they live on forever in syndication. They enter the public consciousness through osmosis and we all have a base knowledge of them whether we realize it or not. Pawn Stars has been part of the public consciousness and therefore meme canon, since it premiered in 2009. Of course 13 years and FIVE HUNDRED episodes later, we’re all more than familiar with it, despite maybe never having seen an episode. The memes are always bizarre and address a kind of otherworldly bargaining. This one though, has an otherworldly appraisal from the Pawn Stars “expert” who can be an expert in anything the meme requires him to be. They’re pretty good and an excellent use of TikTok’s slideshow feature (more so than the typical Mitski, literature quote, depressing meme fare). I’m happy to see the pawn stars guy and his expert every time they come around.
