Met Gala Memes
This year we were less focused on the looks and more focused on who was the wildest person we could photoshop onto the red carpet. There were so many and I think it’s the best we’ve ever done. A lot of new faces and weird edits, which I always love. It expands the lexicon and gives the old favorites a chance to rest. We don’t need to trot out the “You know I had to do it to em” guy every year. Just like not everyone gets to come to the met gala every year. I also think this is the year we retire Jason Derulo falling down the stairs. I did not see him as much as I usually do, which I think is a good thing, for now. We’ll never really be done with that meme but it’s good to give it a rest. Often when we forget a meme for a while, when it comes back we’re better for it. It’s more creative and fun than it was before. I’m willing to wait as long as I have to for that meme’s back and better than ever era.

And The Best Part of This Plan Is….
I love a filter meme. I love this one because it is purely nonsensical. Why this filter for this sound? Don’t answer, I don’t want to know. I’m happy to live in ignorance. I also love the Dr. Evil sound. We never talk about how good it can feel to act like a super villain in the small moments of our lives. Buying expensive chocolate you can’t afford. Lying about being busy to various people in your life. Planning and enacting little schemes to get through the day. This filter combines the weird and the wonderful and there’s nothing better.
A lot of people are having trouble with this one. The format of this meme is and should be Set up of situation (I take the ball), continuation/development of situation (I bounce it), approaching good thing that might happen (I shoot), instead bad thing happens (I miss). Very easy. Classic storytelling. And yet people cannot get that sequence. Some of them have good endings which makes me think they don’t understand how basketball works. Some of them don’t add details that progress the story, just: good thing, more good things that are semi related but don't add to the story, bad thing. That’s not a story. That’s for a different meme we probably have. This one is about the progression of events and with the added dramatic irony of knowing whatever the set up is, the ending is bad. It’s a pretty good meme and could efficiently get a lot of people to tell their stories and yet no one will do it because no one can follow basic instructions. I’ve seen more bad examples than good but I believe we’re capable of a good run of this meme. It hasn’t happened yet, but it could.
The premise of this meme is that 30,000 is a lot when spending money but very little when talking about salary. Which is… fun? I don’t really know what to do with this meme because at the end of every video with this sound my reaction is either “that thing does cost a lot of money” or “that is not a lot of money to make.” No one’s saying anything new or noteworthy. In answer to the question of “30,000?” being asked in the videos, yeah… $30,000.
There’s a new dance!! Everyone is doing it and is having a lot of fun. Summer’s in the air and we’re ready to have full fledged fun. Who better than Lizzo to give us a fun dance to ring in the new season. It gets us back to the roots of TikTok. Personally, I think everyone with over 5000 followers should have to do a dance video every 5 videos regardless of their content niche. We’re all on the dancing app for teenagers, so dance. It’s a tax we should all be forced to pay. It would stop so many people from being self serious, if, in the middle of their 28th straight video about beef with another creator they had to do the renegade. So my take on this new dance is everyone should do it and any creator too self serious to not, should reconsider their place on the app.
When I’m The Only One In The Car
This meme is mostly for closet theater kids outing themselves. It’s for people too cool to play their favorite songs in the car in front of their friends. Some songs are just for alone time in the car but the rest of you need to be brave. Show your friends who you really are. Make them listen to The Last 5 Years soundtrack in the car. Play some T Swizzle for your boys! Everyone needs their private car songs they give Tony worthy performances for but more people need to be less guarded about their internal lives and let their friends see what music they listen to when they’re not around.
Hi Kathryn, loving memeforum as always. For some future issue, I wonder if revisiting tiktok sounds of the past may be an interesting segment? TikTok constantly moves to the next trend, but who is left posting on months old sounds? Has it been taken over by annoying straight couples? Are middle aged users finally finding the trend? It would be interesting to see!
