As a person who spends my life scanning the internet trying to figure out who’s doing what and what it all means, blue sky is lacking a wow factor for me. Of course all of my old favorites are there, but what’s new? Who is the yet to be discovered talent who makes blue sky worth logging into. What unhinged 20 something waitress will breathe life into this website with her micro diary? That’s what I’m waiting for, not a “main character” like Matthew Yglesias, of all people. I don’t have an invite but I can wait for the nerds to finish setting up. I can actually wait longer. I’ll wait until after the hot girls get there.
MET GALA SPECIAL SECTION
Met Gala Monday is a great day on the internet. Mostly because our modern era is built for it. A group chat becomes a situation room as we wait for each look to appear. We’re all filtering rumors and paparazzi shots through to our friends to get second opinions. It’s exciting, It’s electric, and it’s fun to watch on our phones. I, of course, have several opinions about the looks but we will save those for Mean Girl Moment. If you like my meme criticism, you will love my fashion criticism. Until Tomorrow, here are the memes.
[x] HAS ARRIVED AT THE MET GALA
We do this every year and for that very reason I have come around to it. I am older now and I am comforted by the return of the familiar. In previous years, we weren’t as good at it. It lacked commitment. Perhaps because we’ve had a lot of practice recently with Met Galas, there’s more people expecting them and more people with new interesting takes. I’m thinking about coining a new adage, once is happenstance, twice is a repeat, thrice is an annoyance, and four times is tradition. It needs work but it speaks to how time softens our hearts. How if we repeat memes enough times, especially on a yearly basis, we come to look at them fondly.

While I love tradition, I celebrate the new! The met gala gives us a ton of new content every year, some of it becomes memes. This video was an unexpected addition to the cannon. It is a departure from our typical Met Gala fare. It is not glamorous or aspirational at a glance, but it is funny. It is just begging to be sped up with Roman Holiday playing underneath.

Shawn Mendes stepped out with his boys. His barefoot friends, each of whom had a smoothie in hand, accompanied him as he traipsed around Los Angeles. Who are these boys? When did this little clique form? What does it take to be a member of the smoothie squad? Shawn Mendes is Single for the summer and the smoothie squad is out to play! It’s a smoothie squad summer! Squad up and head to the local smoothie store post West Hollywood Equinox visit. Can’t wait to see what the squad gets up to next!

We’re all trying to figure out what we think of this man. I, for one, think he’s fun. I like that we have a Jon Glenn stand in who plays regular guy #1. I also enjoy that he seems to be playing Eli Cash to The Hudson family. The rest of you aren’t so sure. We need to make fun of him to see if he can take it. Or to see if we can take it. What are all the worst things we can say about him, and do any of them stick? Many celebrities cannot come back from a single devastating tweet about their appearance, so we need to see if we can strike down in the prime of his career. I think our great American white boy will take it on the chin.

It is early May, time to secure a summer job. This sound could be for anyone but the way it seems to be manifesting so far is teens and twenty somethings at their customer service jobs, goofing around. It’s awesome. While I don’t think this is the song of the summer, I think it's the song of the summer job. This will be the soundtrack to many a tiktok about one's last shift at whatever place they spent their summer. The email job contingency will try to participate but it will lack the panache that comes from teenagers wasting company time and supplies. Filling out a spreadsheet is not the same visually as making the grossest drink you can think of in the break room. Leave the bored teenager video to the bored teenager.
