Carrie In The Rain
I would say this is less a viral sensation and more something that has been added to the repertoire. We all know the power Sex and the City has on the internet. It has been the birthplace of countless memes and conversations. It seems we’ve seen it all but for those who know the show, we all know there is still a wealth of clips, lines, and quips to be discovered. It’s not all Carrie knocking on the window! We haven’t talked about Natasha’s teeth! Carrie in the Rain is another beautiful entry into our current internet from the text of the past.
Match My Freak
It was fun while it lasted. Is somebody gonna match my freak? is the question posed by philosopher/poet/failing pop star Tinashe. The song gained popularity last week in a viral dance video that I already talked about. A week later we’re still toying with the phrase. It lingers in the imagination. In some ways, it is the purest expression of the human desire for connection. All we want is someone to match our freak.
Of course, whenever things get too real we have to bring it back to the world of television and fiction. Thus began 48 straight hours of fictional characters. We could have wrestled with something and contemplated it but unfortunately, we had to ignore it to talk about the X-files or Desperate Housewives.

Four Seasons Orlando Baby

The Baby started on TikTok, so I will defend her here. I love the Four Seasons Orlando Baby. We all love a baby that seems too aware to be a baby. A baby that you could have a conversation with. A baby with fine motor skills that are a little too fine. On TikTok, we’re just reacting to the Baby. The video originated there so it’s a natural part of the ecosystem. There’s nothing more special about the baby than any other meme. In a week we will forget the baby. Tide goes in, tide goes out.
On Twitter, the baby is taking the website by storm. They’ve never seen anything like the baby. They can’t get enough. The shift from TikTok to Twitter is not uncommon but most times, Twitter rightfully takes a mocking above-it-all tone. This is easy to stomach and often right for the occasion. It’s easier to deal with than everyone trying to be in on the joke. What’s the best of the week on TikTok, shrivels and becomes unfunny on Twitter. It’d be one thing if the joke was the same but on Twitter they seem to be more invested in the fact that the baby is rich. They seem to have gotten the little gentlemen joke confused and just want a wealthy baby. We don’t care that the baby is rich, we care that the baby seems old. The concepts are intertwined in the original sentiments but if we’re going to divorce them, it’s more noteworthy that the baby knows how to hold up their hand and point than the cost of the hotel room. It's not a Succession baby. It’s a Young Sheldon.
How the Hell You Spell Chauffeur

This meme is noteworthy because it’s another in a long series of surrenders to AI. This is the most recent iteration. These AI songs pass for funny but don’t hold up upon closer inspection. Not only is there something off about them, in that usual AI way but they’re all the kind of funny that doesn’t make any sense. If you don’t investigate or think at all it sounds like a real song but under scrutiny, it’s clear this was made to trick you for a second. It’s designed to pass under the unhearing ear. Those who do not analyze or even recognize their surroundings are easily tricked.
But . ... how the hell DO you spell chauffeur???
we do not care that the baby is rich. we care that the baby is old.
