Meme Report 4/6
This Week's Meme Report is brought to you by Dayquil, Nyquil, and the Loose Pills at the bottom of my Pill Basket
The Slap (cont.)
Well it’s week two of the slap. We’ve exhausted every possible opinion. People keep coming out with new takes but we’re tired of them. The only thing that remains, and the only thing that will remain, is the memes. The longer the memes go on the more innovative they become. A strong round of discourse is good for memes. Instead of being exhausted by photo edits we are exhausted by takes, which makes the photo edits more exciting. We’re on the tail end of this so people better be ready to pump more memes into the ecosystem once we deplete our resources. My bet for next week is we go all in on micro plastics but I’d love to be surprised.
Morbius
There’s a new superhero movie but this time instead of being bad in a stupid way, it’s stupid in a fun way. Maybe because it’s Marvel property being released under Sony (I read the trades) but we’re finally having fun with superhero movies again. It took a lot of time but we can be haters without getting into fights about cinema and other things. A superhero movie can just be silly and bad. We can make memes about a marvel adjacent movie being kind of shitty. This is a win for culture. We’re getting closer to putting those nerds in their place.
TikTok
Welcome back to the conversation, ppcocaine! I thought we were done with you and your very explicit songs, but summer 2020 is back and so are you. This song is pretty mild and tame compared to their other work but I think we all need to ease back into our TrapBunnieBubbles era with a veneration of some of our most disrespected community members, Homie Hoppers. I’m glad they’re getting their day and proudly claiming their title. The first of many people who will be elevated and celebrated now that ppcocaine is back.
This one needs an explainer. This trend starts with generic TikTok background music (don’t come for me if it’s from pokemon or something, I don’t care) and someone saying a fact about their younger self. Then the chorus of Rain on Me by Lady Gaga plays, meaning they are gay. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this trend. It’s fine, it’s inoffensive, it can be eye opening but it’s cheap. It’s an easy way to get views. No one hands out likes on TikTok easier than gay people and not one single person holds anyone accountable. I’m here to say: Enough. We get one month, ONE MONTH, to make cheap videos for views and likes and brand deals. That month is June. Once again, save it for the stage baby girl.
Me Trying To Explode Them With My Mind
Great meme. Great for finally going after the people that complain about things that don’t matter. People who victimize themselves for no reason. People that can’t shut the fuck up ever. People who you can’t literally do anything to. Sometimes all you have left is hoping that suddenly you have developed superpowers and can explode annoying people with your mind. Maybe science and common wisdom was wrong. Maybe if a person is annoying enough, and someone else is determined enough, a miracle will happen. God will see fit to let me explode them with my mind.
