No Good oscar memes. Sad to say.
Sections of a Joint (again)
It sparked gifted kid discourse! This meme is cursed! A girl just wanted to talk about how smoking a joint makes her feel and you nerds made it about the same 5 books and movies you always talk about and then it got to people who still talk about being a gifted kid. It’s a useful format to talk about things and parse them out but Jesus Christ some of you need your privileges revoked.
SNL Host
Elon Musk???? I know why this is happening but why is this happening. I do like that it has inspired people to fantasy cast their ideal off the rails SNL host. It’s also a good refresher for who the wildest people in our culture are right at this moment. Interesting that people are also making the musical guest a wild choice. Miley Cyrus is a normal musical guest for SNL. She’s not even that weird a pairing with Elon Musk. But have your fun brainstorming weird pairings of host and musical guest.
Cognitive Restructuring
We love to talk about therapy on twitter dot com and I think we should stop. I don’t want to get into why or why not cognitive restructuring works or doesn’t because I simply don’t know. I am just some girl and so are most people arguing about an over simplified diagram. How about you draw a diagram about complex thought? Not that easy! The little jokes are fine but it feels like everyone cares too much for it to be funny. We’re all joking but everyone cares too much about both therapy and the concept of getting yelled at by your boss to laugh it off. I’m already bored and don’t care about these fights.
Tiktok
So There’s More Drama
It’s fun to see girls and their dads having fun. It’s sweet and I’m a sucker for involving your parents in a Tiktok trend, especially when it would take one thousand years to explain the context. I have tried to figure out who the people the girl in the video is talking about and it’s nearly impossible to comprehend why they are famous. Don’t ask me who Jaden and Nessa are. I don’t know.
Don’t Be Surprised If One Day I Just....
It’s spring which means it’s cottage core escapist fantasy season. Have your flowers and fresh baked bread and peasant blouses but remember don’t fall into the trad wife pipeline and don’t romanticize Chris McCandless. There are much more interesting and better equipped people to idolize if you want to fantasize about living in the wilderness. It’s fine for now to have your day dream but I can see this trend getting annoying in a myriad of ways over the next couple months if not weeks.
I Would Never Dance For A Man
I don’t hate it but I also don’t care. Not that funny but I think the people making it think they’re really funny.
You Don’t Know What I’ve Been Through
I can’t read that fast. The people making them are putting in effort and I’m glad it’s making them happy but I do tend to scroll away midway through the video.
”You know me” “No I Don’t”
I don’t want to say it’s a perfect meme format but it is a great one. The best memes, in my opinion, are the ones that remind us of the small shared parts of the human experience that we never talk about. In this format people express all the things that we’re supposed to know but don’t. This meme celebrates the need to put 2+2 into a calculator while you’re taking a math test even though you know. It lets us confess that at 24 we still have to double check our right from our left. It’s a new way to say it and it’s a fun video to watch.
Good to see others engaging in meme criticism in ways I’m not qualified to. Learn your steps!
