It’s not enough to be an official meme but I’ve seen an uptick in people talking about dumping your loser situationship. Both from girls ready to finally do it and their friends who have finally gotten brave enough to talk about it. It could be a change in the culture or it could just be spring. Either way, signs are looking good for a Hot Girl Summer.
Kudos For Saying That For Spilling
I’m sure there are a lot of Drag Race memes that happen weekly but they don’t break through for me anymore. I have put in a lot of work to make sure the references-passing-as-jokes to a show I don’t watch don’t clog my timeline. Until this one. It really spoke to everyone this time around. It was very easy to slot into other media and one did not have to know the reference to get the joke. It could also be the hard work of Evan Ross Katz making his own shareable screenshots (which need a different font) that got us where we are now. Or it could be that because everything is screenshot based it made it through my muted words and hashtags.
Now I Just Need To Pick A Good Quote
A peak behind the curtain. It’s an overused turn-of-phrase but; If I were consulting on documents to put in a DBQ on the internet in the 2020s, I would pick this image. (College Board Please Call me when you do that I have THOUGHTS). I think it simply encapsulates how a lot of people behave on the internet. It’s kind of like a political cartoon in that it spells exactly what it’s trying to say and nothing more. People can change their quote origin of choice but it all means the same thing. What Holy Text shall I cull from to let everyone know I have beauty and brains? There is no significant difference between Deftones lyrics, Mad Men quotes, or psalms from the bible. Everyone gets to make their own version and say almost exactly the same thing.
Royal Announcement
Everyone absolutely has to calm down. I am over this. Mostly because everyone stopped having fun and started committing fraud. We brought in too many people and they all want to go viral. Bitches don’t know how to speculate anymore. The royal announcement meme made me think there was at some point in the past 3 days a real royal announcement. Someone dug this out of their drafts from when the queen died and thought about having some fun. No more fun allowed. We have 11 days until easter. Let’s pace ourselves.
TikTok
TikTok Sonic State of The Union
Here’s the situation. We have not had a good music trend in a while. We have mere moments before brands jump on a popular sound to show off their product. There was no trend with the new Beyonce song, just an acknowledgment that it was new Beyonce so we all liked it. This is true of every song that is even a little bit popular. The trend for Austin by Dasha was originally a form of line dancing but not anymore. The only thing I see on my FYP anymore is popular songs playing under videos so that people see them. It’s a means to an end. We’ve engagement-hacked the website to death and now there are only 4 songs. Even the songs that I like get played to death. I liked End of Beginning! When I’m back in Chicago? I feel sick of hearing it! This whole situation is more proof that the app is over. It is devoid of any collective creative power. I can’t do just 3 straight weeks of Dune Edits. I need more. From everyone. Tap, tap, tap. That’s me hitting the button on a cultural rest (For the better!).

There is also a G Eazy renaissance happening and it has to stop. It is subtle and I think we’re not supposed to know it’s happening but I know. I’ll always know. I know what Gerald is up to. Every time a vibey song plays under some photos and I vaguely recognize it, it’s Gerald. Everyone else is absorbing the moment and learning a lesson about enjoying your little life. Not Me. I’m making calculations about an ironic G-Eazy revival and whether or not we are culturally ready to handle that. The answer, as always, is No.
How Many Girls Are You Going To Talk To

This is the future of TikTok. We need less 30-something millennials doing discourse and more frat boys creating content about engaging with the real world. Say what you will about Frat boys but no one is better at socializing than them. We all need to take a hint from them if we want to rebuild our IRL social networks. You don’t even need to be a frat boy! Here, they may be making fun of their inability to talk to girls but at least they are out in the world, at bars and parties, doing things. More than I can say for some of you!
