It’s two weeks later and I’ve packed up all my earthly belongings and driven across the country. I have barely settled in but for those of you keeping track, I am now a Vermont based publication. So instead of picturing me having a glamourous life in Los Angeles, please picture me having a glamourous life in the wilderness of New England.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programing. If I missed anything, please let me know and I’ll throw it in next week. All the discourse from the past two weeks will be covered in tomorrow’s Mean Girl Moment. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it.
The Dress (Again)
This meme is having a second life rather than a true revival. We’re not continuing the old conversation, just remembering we had it. We all remember the first instance of the dress. It was a 48 hour argument that captured everyone’s attention. Now, 8 years later, we’re bringing it back just to say, ‘Memba this? No larger statement or more interesting take has been made. Just pictures of the dress, a reference for references’ sake. As we have learned by now, the internet is not forever and we need to catalog our history online. If we don’t have a designated person, to bring stuff up from the past to keep it in our collective consciousness, it’s nice for all of us to go “oh yeah I do remember when that happened.” If for no other reason than to acknowledge how much time has passed.
You Have To Be A Whole Other Level of Gay and Religiously Traumatized
Another phrase is going to be added to our vocabularies whether we like it or not. “Level of gay and religiously traumatized” is now in the lexicon thanks to an Ethel Cain fan tweet. The meme itself is just another “look at all the places” meme. We have a variety of location shots from various Bravo franchises, cartoons, and movies. This meme is almost on autopilot. Someone tweeted a phrase we liked but also thought was kind of silly. It’s like someone pressed a button and everyone who saw the original tweet was forced to do their own. This meme is a gimmie and more to keep things fresh. It’s been awhile since we brought out the good place photos and dusted them off. Think of it as spring cleaning.
Book
I thought this would be a flash in the pan. Just one night of tweeting from sports and sports adjacent people, then forgotten. I’ve never been so happy to be wrong. I love Book. I love that the literary non-hotties have taken to it as well. It’s a perfect meme to have in our back pockets. So simple, so beautiful. I would believe A-ROD is in on the joke and knows how funny this is and if he doesn’t it’s even funnier. It’s a win-win. Even the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, even the journey of writing a whole book starts with writing “book” at the top and underlining it.
When It’s Career Day
As a recent victim of Catalytic Converter crime, this particular iteration of this meme really speaks to me. This meme is almost always made out of anger. It comes from the same place of inspiration as “get a job” tweets. They have made a meme from the perspective of the child of the person who stole their catalytic converter to get their point across. It’s the modern version of “what would your children think?” but the authors have backed into that position via a meme. This meme is the result of the kind of mental gymnastics one starts to do when they’ve been mad about something for 3 days at least. I understand how we get here and I’m ready for more like it.
Ash Wednesday Edit
Once a year a bunch of people out themselves as catholic by walking around with a huge cross made of ash on their forehead. It’s shocking and fun and more of us who grew up catholic should do it because if nothing else it’s very chic. The best way to liven up any makeup look is an Ash Cross, but only once a year. This year, a bunch of people edited crosses onto our favorite reaction images. In celebration of the holiday and to elicit the same kind of subtle shock that one normally experiences when they see Stephen Colbert wearing his ashes and not commenting on them. Nothing makes me more aware that I am but dust and to dust I shall return than seeing Tar with ash on her forehead.
Pedro Pascal
I have not kept up with the Last of Us and it’s going to take more than a three panel meme that was definitely made by the social media marketing team to get me to catch up. I would love to declare this meme has no staying power but who knows anymore? You people will repost anything.

There is no better feeling than trying to arm chair psychoanalyze someone and finding the missing piece. Not only that, but having access to the missing piece because it’s highly localized information only you know. Everything clicks together once you find out someone is from an adjacent local community. This sound allows people to reveal their versions of that. Some of them are less revealing than others. They don’t speak to a specific knowledge base that one only gains from experience. They lack a missing piece element. Something like “she’s not a girls girl” is not a revelation worthy of this trend to me. Mostly because that is a self identified label that doesn’t really mean anything rather than a life experience that shaped her. I would not cover my mouth in shock if someone told me that about someone the way I would if I found out they were the youngest of 10 or took horseback riding lessons or went to a certain local private school something.
House Surrounded By Cops Filter
A filter based trend that has two main uses. One is mostly in Spanish, with a consistent accompanying song, and is mostly about pretending to get arrested in the original spirit of the filter, with each person free to add their own interpretation as to why. The second version is in english and is about loving uncool music. We do both of these a lot but the filter is fun. I’m a sucker for the animated ones that just use your head and tell a story. They’re the most dynamic to watch and people are willing to be silly with it, which I’m a big proponent of. This particular filter helps to depict two of my most thought about experiences: the fear of doing my taxes wrong and listening to butt rock every couple of months because it reminds my of being a child in the early 2000s/
Glamour Filter

Every time this happens, it’s really funny. People get all up in arms about how filters are affecting our kids self esteem and the power of AI and the dangers of technology. Meanwhile the filter only looks good on people who have the features the filter accentuates and looks insane on everyone else. To me, seeing another person look ugly with the filter makes it so much less “powerful” and “dangerous”. As long as there are people who will look at this filter and laugh at themselves because they look Giga chad, we’re safe from young girls ruining their self esteem or whatever we’re pretending to be worried about. Can’t wait to do this again in six months!
Fuck Them Kids and Fuck U2

A little clever! A little wordplay! Instead of the classic interpretation of the words being spoken in this sound, we have added an extraneous situation to play pretend with. The set up is, you’ve been offered three options, you can either help children, the show You (or the band U2), or find out information you’ve always wanted to know but don’t have access to. Everyone says “fuck them kids and fuck You, too (or U2)” TikTok’s been a little too literal for me lately so this fake scenario we’ve all agreed to play make believe with is fun. Anything to get away from people talking to their younger selves.

Family Guy renaissance continues with a Chris/Brian sound. This one really lets Chris and his good nature and kind heart shine through. All those who have not come over to the Family Guy side, will soon be avid watchers just like anyone else. They won’t recognize the voices and will use the sound to say something nice. That’s how it starts. Next thing they know they’re watching the same kinetic sand ASMR videos under clips of full episodes and stopping their scroll to watch the whole thing. We’ll all be Family Guy fans by the end of this year. Whether we know it or not.

HATE the Pedro pascal meme. One of the worst I’ve seen.
