Meme Report 2/24/21
Twitter
Why is everyone suddenly talking about Roman columns. Why does being on twitter mean we have to suddenly all develop an opinion on which column is best? It’s a fun thing to fight about but I’m always surprised about what we fight about in an innocuous way. We’re like a family that can’t discuss certain movies without ruining the night. Except the topics that are off limits are anything that affects anybody’s life, the past, and of course, the future. We’re only allowed to lightheartedly fight about Roman columns because anything else ends in hurt feelings and lifetime bans.
International Women’s Day Conference
Really incredible work everyone. Ironic leftist gay twitter hasnt had this much fun since Bernie won Nevada. Nice to see you guys getting back out there
Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss
There’s something about tumblr memes that move to twitter, where I feel like everyone thinks they’re in on the joke, and they’re not. I feel like I had a vision the first time I saw this meme of it becoming very popular and getting repeated and repeated until the words no longer meant anything. The pool of people who think this is funny grows and grows until it is watered down and becomes something everyone says to seem edgy and if everyone is edgy, no one is.
Plus I saw someone come up with a “boy version” for some fandom bullshit which I always hate and always sucks. We all remembered what happened to the Cinnamon Roll onion article, and I never want to live through something like that again. Something so funny taken by the most humorless people on the internet.
Tiktok
There’s a bunch of trends right now that are just transitions of people before and after make up. Nothing wrong with that, it’s tiktok’s bread and butter. There’s just like 8 right now and as much as they’re fine. They’re not memes. Also this is part of the cycle of tiktok that as more people hit their low and finally join tiktok, they all go through a phase where they post a bunch videos like this. If you’re a hot girl and you want to gain a following, this is a good way to do it. But the tides will turn and people will leave and the freaks and I will still be there.
Sal correcting Tupperware
I love sal, I love the impractical jokers, I hate when people say tubberware, the content of the meme is not that revolutionary but I love hearing my boy say Wrong
Alex Jones Put a finger down
Tiktok innovation is incredible. Turing this sound into a PFAD challenge is genius.
I’ve got not one not two, oh no it is two
I don’t want to hear from people with two personality traits. Get a third one. If you take the time to make a tiktok about you only having two personality traits, Google the knights Templar instead. Something, anything. Become interesting, it’s not that difficult.

BGC Drama Music
A simple meme where every execution is at least good, if not great. Everyone gets to be a little mean, which we all need every once in a while.
Number One Victory Royale
I saw someone say this song is proof that cringe culture is dead. I don’t think that’s true. A child doing pretty good fortnite song parodies is not cringe. Even if it were, it’s not our job as adults to make fun of it. Because it is legitimately good and an ear worm, we listen to it over and over again. American Boy is a catchy song and these new lyrics are easy to remember. Time and time again we learn that high production value and good songwriting overrule cringe. This does not mean cringe culture is dead. It’s alive and well baby. As long we continue to grow and change as people we will continue to look back at our past, and see people going through what we went through and how we were, there will always be cringe culture. I’m not defending it, I’m simply considering that factors that make it run.
New Theory Alert!!!
The rate of decay for a meme as far as moving from platform to platform is as follows
Tumblr to twitter: 2-3 weeks (gaslight gatekeep girlboss has been kicking around on there for a little while)
Tiktok to twitter: 1 week (almost always in a mean way unless the person cross posting is promoting a VERY talented dancer) twitter people never know that they’re a week behind and on one hand, I don’t blame them because tiktok make it hard to figure out when things were originally posted. On the other hand I do blame them because just get on tiktok.
Tiktok to Instagram: one month, reels are just tiktoks that are cross posted but I think there’s less of a community here.
Twitter to Instagram: no idea I don’t look at memes on Instagram I’m not 19 anymore
