Not a great week for memes but that’s to be expected. Christmas is a time that requires a lot from everyone. Even those who don’t celebrate it. Everyone is expected to be somewhere and those who aren’t have happily cultivated a space for themselves to do whatever they want. The internet is a place of momentary respite where people engage with their kind, after spending a long day engaging with their kin. No one has the energy to make a lot of memes. Here’s what we made together when we were trying to get away from our families. Or not watching Glass Onion… which I will cover in tomorrow’s Mean Girl Moment (it comes out on Thursdays now and then we’re done until next week.)
New Years Walking Girl
She returns to us once more. If you ever for one second thought that we would have a year without the girl who walks from one year to the next carrying only what benefits her, you were sorely mistaken. She returns to us with the same hopes and dreams as before, hoping this year will be better. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Take Your Ass Back To
Finally! An Image macro! God it’s like drinking a cool glass of water on a hot summer's day. An old Image of Kevin Hart with text that makes very little sense in almost any context. It’s what I need. It’s what I crave. It requires skill and knowledge to reproduce and construct one’s own. There is a fluency required and I personally love when there is a fluency required. The internet does not have to be for everyone. We’ve spent too long catering to and including people who just got here. It’s dulled down our memes. As the original meme states, take your sensitive ass back to Facebook.

It’s So Hard

The Phoebe Bridgers Christmas song that gets the most traction is the one about war but is of course interpreted by fans to be about finals and going to college in New England. We’ve taken our whining one step further. It’s when will my husband return from war but with added specifics about exactly how we’re all being dramatic. Everyone dreams of being in their own Jane Austen novel now and then, and we finally have a soundtrack for it.
Is Your Man On The Floor Dance

Once again, as much as I love fun, it’s as important that we all do the full choreography every time we attempt a TikTok dance. I feel cheated when people just stand there and do not take the time to teach their family members the full choreo. If we’re going to do something, we need to do it right. These little girls can do it! I’m sure many other people could catch on.
