Twitter proved itself to be full of humorless nerds who can’t have fun and Marty Scorcese proved himself to be on top of it as always. The queen herself, Francesca Scorcese told her father about it and he responded “I made that film years ago.” He’s on a roll currently with this and the admission that he watches Derry Girls, both in one week. Twitter and TikTok had their chance at this fun, but the film will only live on there among the dual citizens of tumblr who live on other apps, as it should.
The Cousin Walk
Nothing is sacred. Nothing on social media anyway. For years people have been posting about “The cousin walk” which is the walk people take with their cousins to smoke weed before thanksgiving dinner. The cousin walk, which was once a small tradition joked about once a year, was blown out of proportion by people who were tired of earnest excitement for something so menial. I don’t have a dog in this fight so I hope next year we all forget we even did this.
Kamala Harris
When I rewatched a bunch of sitcoms during the pandemic, I was shocked at how many were so pro-Biden. Of course, there’s Parks and Rec’s whole Biden arc, but who remembers the Biden episode of Community? Or New Girl? He was prevalent in media as a bumbling fun dad who we loved. I was unaware of it at the time but I won’t be fooled again. Now there’s a bunch of young people on the internet saying “I love her.” because she's a little disconnected from reality and can’t stop laughing. We’re supposed to fall in love with her now so it feels easier next time around. Many fair-weather leftists are going to have a little more fun voting for her knowing she’s probably Xanned out.
Joe Biden in a Black Long-Sleeve T-Shirt
The magic of a black long-sleeve t-shirt. Anyone looks cool, hot, young, and sophisticated in one. Suddenly the President of the United States has the soul of a beat poet and the heart of an Aritzia girl.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love a meme you can set your watch to. I love that every year we have agreed to bring back the Gossip Girl thanksgiving scene with our families. I love thanksgiving on TikTok. I love seeing people with large families and beautiful homes make somewhat mean videos about their families. There’s nothing better for me. Not because I want that for myself but because I want a peak behind the curtain. Every year I am promised those TikToks, and every year they are exactly as I remember.

Ok so maybe I’m a heartless bitch. So heartless that I only saw this trend after some girls on my FYP were speculating about cognitive development or some other thing they’re not qualified to talk about. TikTok knew I wouldn’t care but since a lot of girls my age love babies I eventually heard about it. I don’t love this kind of outwardly cutesie bullshit where parents parade around their kids on the internet next to a puppet and we all have to indulge them because the kid is cute. It’s a fun puppet but I don’t care about your children.
2022 Eras (Slideshow)
I think this trend is fun. I like it. As I said before I like year-end retrospectives. I love learning that some girl in Minneapolis had a pink hair era last winter and went on new anti-depressants in August. I think it’s fun. It reminds us both how much happens and that it’s all temporary. I think of my eras of this year and how they all felt so permanent and how temporary they all ended up being.
What I can’t stand is that people are referring to single nights of their lives as eras. I saw one person saying it's okay to say one night of your life is an era. It’s not. Here’s the thing, I think anything that has a definite endpoint is not an era. Your Halloween costume is not an era, neither is a single bad night. The thing that makes an era in our modern definition is that it is your past, present, and immediate future. I’m in my toast era because I ate toast yesterday, I’m eating toast right now, and I plan on eating toast tomorrow. The eras are difficult or fun because they are all we can see for the moment. They end when something new is on the horizon.
I never got to do the cousin walk, and my adolescence was worse for it.
The era take is top notch
