It's not even about her and it's about her
I will GET TO IT. There will be a new Taylor Talk SHORTLY. In case you’re looking for more Taylor Swift Content RIGHT AWAY, here is last week’s Taylor Talk, in which most of my theories and predictions have been proven correct. Read this to satisfy your hunger in the meantime, and then imagine all the correct things I’ll say in 2 to 3 days.
Sadie Sink Crying to Lyrics
Someone was vulnerable about the wrong thing on the internet. Granted the lyrics to Eldest Daughter are cloying and otherwise terrible so They set them selves up to be quoted tweeted to death with the lyrics to Stupid Hoe or some Geese Song. The lesson here is don’t make yourself such an easy target. However, the rest of us who would never post a picture of Sadie Sink crying to poorly written lyrics need to learn restraint. Don’t go for such an easy target. The quote tweeters come out on top with this one but just barely.
Coffee Comic
To the right, Starbucks represents everything wrong with America (holiday coffee cups do not evoke Christ, not respecful enough in the wake of Charlie kirk’s death), and to the left Starbucks also represents everything wrong with America (union busting, bad coffee, devotion to corporate entities). I don’t know why Starbucks has to be the site of the culture war, but it does, even 20 years later. The Baristas remain our strongest soliders. This comic is a relic to remind us how long they’ve been fighting and just what we’ve all been fighting for (literally nothing). So in deference, we add this to the cannon of conservative political cartoons about nothing important that we can remix to our hearts content.

All of our posturing about morality when it comes to artists and musicians is wrong headed for multiple reasons. Most importantly, if it’s good, it’s good. No further proof that all of this falls apart than when this song goes viral again as it does once a year. It would not stick in the popular consciousness if we all did not harbor a secret love for it, even though by now most of us know it’s Jesus music written by an utlra conservative.
I remember the first time this song went viral, when people who grew up listening to this garbage on purpose told us about their horrible childhoods in the church. The point of the trend was to point out the hypocrisy of those singing it but everyone involved had to admit, it’s a catchy song. Since then, about once a year someone brings it back and we once again have to admit this one song that is about the power of the Lord to forgive is pretty good. It sounds like an early 2000s pop song that’s trying to imitate Liz Phair (self titled ofc). It is of course about how through God we are all redeemed despite our flaws and the singer posted on Instagram how heartbroken she was when Biden was elected. Yet this does not stop us from every year returning to this song as an ironic object of affection. The irony necessary because we cannot be seen loving Jesus music in earnest.
Father Figure Edits
Father Figure is an ok song that I have grown to like in the past 72 hours. Mostly because it’s the best fodder for edits. My favorite version of those edits are about Napheesa Collier releasing a statement about Cathy Englebert days before their Collective Bargaining Agreement expires. This specific iteration of this edit is a fun take on the genre. I like the real world application with stakes that haven’t paid off yet. It’s not a story with a known ending. We’re watching it unfold and choosing sides. I’m team Napheesa, who seems perfectly capable of taking on the father figure here. I’m excited to see how this plays out and want more edits in the aftermath of what is hopefully a victory.
