This meme is a classic. It plays on the urban legend that people are putting knives and glass and poison and drugs in kids’ candy. Halloween is scary for kids of all ages, little kids who are scared by everything, big kids who want to be scared by horror movies, and people who want to be scared by ideas they made up to scare themselves. This meme pays homage to the last group, who might not even be real anymore. Check your kids’ candy, there might be razor blades or an invasive species of alewife or something even scarier.
Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm?
Every day millions of girlfriends ask their boyfriends if they would still love them if they were a worm. This hypothetical ruins relationships and forms new bonds. It is a new kind of ancient riddle. If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it does it make a sound? Would you rather live in a beautiful building with a view of an ugly building or an ugly building with a view of a beautiful building? Would you still love me if I was a worm? This last question is representative of the wandering mind of many a woman. In meme form, we try to answer it in every possible way. A creative college essay question we’re all workshopping at all times so our answers stand out. The answer of course is yes, but we don’t want to admit we’re not creative enough to be unique and be right. We simply do our duty, on either side by asking the question, answering yes, and liking that for the answer. We want to be deeper than that. We’re not but we’d like to be. We want to lack the insecurity to ask, the dutifulness to answer yes, and the simplicity to be satisfied by that answer. But of course in the end we’re all simple. We’re all worms.

I was unemployed for so long and went on so many stupid adventures to fill my days. Now we all want to make memes celebrating this storied figure that I once embodied. The unemployed friend. This meme takes me back to those days. It is the pain from an old wound. It reminds me of having the freedom to go anywhere and do anything because no one was expecting you anywhere for at least a while. The unemployed are modern cowboys with this meme. Free to go anywhere, and do anything with maybe $30 to their name and nothing but the open road ahead of them. That used to be me but I hung up my hat. Be free my brothers of the open plains, you’ll be back in the office or on the sales floor both too soon and not soon enough.

Normally when a film opens to middling reviews and that’s the last we see of the stars for a while. Yet here we are! We have more information from the Olvia Wilde/Harry Styles affair from everyone’s favorite source: The Nanny. This girl gave everything we needed to hear and no matter to what degree of true it is, it has the details we want. The car! The texts! And most importantly the salad dressing! It’s been years since we had details this good so of course, we need to immortalize them the only way we know how: Memes. Thank god for that. In the words of Harry styles finally, there’s a celebrity divorce that feels like a celebrity divorce.

We love when opposites attract, don’t we folks? We just love it! We can’t get enough of it!!! When people are different but they either get along or need each other, it simply makes us happy! We will find new ways to say it every day. This is just the most recent version of it!

I…. love this trend. It is ripe for content. Everyone has a different fun take on it. It also, somehow, is maintaining a good tone. Obviously, the loss of one’s faith is a dramatic life-changing experience, but most people have enough distance from it to joke about it. For the first time, people are matching the tone predetermined by the sound. If the REM song is set to Under the Sea, people know enough to keep it fun. Keep it light, Let it get a little dark, obviously, that’s where the humor lies, but then keep it fun. Don’t say anything you’re not over and keep it moving. I think it must be because while losing your faith can be traumatic, once it’s gone there’s not really anything you can do to get it back and there are plenty of people who have meaningful fulfilling lives without religion, and those people are also mostly normal.

This time I believe Carly Rae Jepsen will capture popular culture at large and she will maintain mainstream success. It’s real this time. Remember Call Me Maybe? We loved Call Me Maybe. What if we could have good-quality pop hits every couple of years? We can. We just have to all buy into Carly Rae. Boy Problems, Cut to The Feeling, Emotion, Emotion Side B, Dedicated.
