Women's Stories Matter
I am mad at everyone involved in this. Reese for going on a talk show and saying something so boring and consistent. All of the gay guys who tweeted this to say something boring and consistent. All of the women who work in media who retweeted them. Everyone from top to bottom. Boring. Consistent. No hoops to jump through. Nothing interesting to say. Not even a clever turn of phrase to work in. Just more of the same.
Mario
New Mario Movie Trailer dropped! We all have reactions and thoughts (love Jack Black as king Bowser! Hate Chris Pratt's voice!) But we needed a meme. So we took the image from the trailer that had the clearest picture of Mario and made a meme. We did our best. That’s all we can do sometimes. Our best. This was not our best meme but it was our best effort for a movie I would say most people are excited for in some capacity. We don’t want to be too mean in case we have to eat our words and we don’t want to be excited for the same reasons. Only time will tell and then we can be as mean (or as nice) as we want with the Mario memes.
Twitter Redesign
Twitter gave us a gift this week. They let us post videos, gifs, and images all in one post. We needed to make a meme to celebrate the news, just as we did when we lost the crop. As always the most boring, lowest common denominator version of the meme. It’s not even as funny as the Pope format. The couple cuddling watching something won out over every fun attempt at playing with this format. Sure it’s not going away, but we only get one chance at the most popular meme from a Twitter redesign and I’m sad we ended up with this one.

I Am The Devil From The Bible

I love it. I think we were told not to compare bad things too often and we’ve lost a sense of scale. It’s important to remember when something is of and similar to, the devil from the bible. When we’re actually not fucking around. It’s actually good to know when something is the Devil from the Bible and when something can be defeated with the power of friendship. When we’re actually being serious and when we can use our regular tactics.
Negroni, Sbagliato, with Prosecco

To some this exchange is the hottest thing on TikTok right now. To others, with real-world experience of charm, this is just confidence. They’re not even that confident. There are hotter ways to say “Negroni, Sbagliato, with Prosecco”. I’ll say it, I think Emma D’arcy stumbles through their words and doesn’t have enough confidence to bring the whole phrase home. Everyone is overreacting because the pandemic robbed everyone of an experience of natural charisma.
Watching Him Pour My Fourth Shot

Sometimes I think people on TikTok have never had a drink before. The way they all talk about it is bizarre to me. Like I get the relationship with alcohol they’re trying to convey but it just doesn’t ring true to me. There are too many moving parts in this interaction and none of them feel real. It feels like a made-up scenario someone posted about so they could talk about World War 2 history or Warrior Cats.
Speak Up

This trend only works if the language in the original phrases is masked in some way. The phrases continue to say something without coming right out and saying it. Some people continue to misuse this trend and start out with the first phrase being outright hateful. That’s not really a speak-up moment. The final phrase should be the one with the most vitriol or obvious point. Some people are starting too early with the bigotry and their overall punchline is lost. Use the tools provides to make the best video possible. Otherwise, why bother?
