When I look at Sabrina Carpenter, I get her whole deal, which is easy to understand. She’s sexy but in a cartoonish, over-the-top way. She is sexy, the way a heart-shaped bed is sexy. It’s kitschy in theory, but she has the money to make it look more expensive than most kitsch. It’s a play on being sexy. She’s not sexy the way Tate McRae is sexy, which is obvious and required of her if she wants any success (because she is not otherwise interesting). Sabrina Carpenter is doing something, and she has an artistic vision. Nothing she does is an earnest attempt at a thing; it is all interpreted through the Sabrina Carpenter lens.
