Last week Taylor Swift was named the Time Person of the Year. This honor required her to give her first interview in a while and reminded us all why she so rarely does that. As the adage goes, Writers shouldn’t speak. The interview is just the cherry on top of the accolade. A necessary evil. The achievement is great, but the interview does not exist to convert non-fans. Nor does it make fans feel closer to the object of their idolatry. As long as I have been aware of Taylor Swift, she has never come off well when speaking to another person. She is not funny personable or charming in these situations. When allowed to go on for too long, it becomes clear how serious she is about her victim narrative.
