It’s Euphoria Season again. The internet’s favorite and least favorite show at the same time. Nothing divides my generation, give or take five years, more than this show. Where some things are clear age divides, such as Tiktok and remembering 9/11, Euphoria seems pretty evenly split between the 1995 and 2002 age group. I’ll watch almost anything HBO produces but beyond my blind fandom I think the show has artistic value. It’s not a perfect show but I don’t think television has to be perfect to be enjoyable. Honestly far from it.
I’m not just here to debate the artistic merit of Euphoria. I’m here to do what I do best, discuss the memes. To me, the memes are intrinsic to the show. It’s more than just keeping up with the zeitgeist, which I also enjoy, but participating in the larger universe of the show. It is a positive feedback loop of show creating discourse which then gets the viewer excited for the show, which then creates more discourse.
